AAA Posts Holiday Trash Schedule….
AAA has
released their holiday trash schedule. Please note there will
be no trash pick-up on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. Trash and
recyclables will be removed the next regularly scheduled pick-up
day.
In addition,
note there is a change for Christmas and New Year’s Day, since
they both fall on Thursday. The trash will be picked up on the
next regularly scheduled day. However, recyclables will be picked
up on Saturday, December 27 and Saturday, January 3. Recyclables
must be out by 6am.
Christmas
tree collection will on Wednesday, January 7 and 14. They will
be recycled. This service is free of charge and requires no
prior scheduling by Leewood homeowners. Place your trees, in
their normal pick-up locations, on one of the two days. All
tinsel and ornaments must be removed from the trees. Any trees
not collected on these dates may be placed on the curb during
normal collection days after January 14.

Commercial Vehicles to Move? by
Chris Taylor
In case
you hadn’t noticed, the number of renters seems to be increasing.
In fact, one realtor, while showing a property last week, encouraged
prospective buyers to consider acquiring the property as a rental
unit, take on boarders in the basement to defray mortgage costs.
Either way, it could mean more vehicles for a fixed number of
parking spaces.
Accordingly,
the LHOA board is encouraging those with vehicles, which might
be classified as commercial, (business vans/trucks with ladders,
valet and delivery cars), to start parking on the service road
along Braddock or on the East side of Bradwood Street, between
Braddock and Leebrad. This would hopefully make more spaces
available.
Be a good
neighbor and create more room.
Web editor's
note: Actually, we don't have an increase in renters, but a
decrease.

be a local start of the traditional holiday shopping season
is underway at the Lee District RECenter. This weekend marks
the 19th anniversary of the event.

Around Leewood... by Chris Taylor
In case
you haven’t noticed there are some new plants in the development.
The fall planting is underway thanks to the efforts of Al Sanford,
Leona Taylor and Ron Filadelfo.
In fact,
the new plantings amount to over $8,000 worth of changes to
the development.
The recent
storms have done some damage, like last weekend with fallen
trees. If you should have a tree fall, contact Al Sanford, Grounds
and Maintenance Committee Chairman for assistance. The two affected
trees were trimmed, and in one case, completely removed within
hours.
If some
trees present unusual problems also contact Al. For example,
some limbs hang low and brush against vehicles. In another instance,
there is a tree in the common area between homes on Bradwood
and Leebrad which has become a haven for some birds. Allegedly,
they like to pick the fruit of those trees and, while enroute
to nests in the Braddock Mews area, inadvertently drop some
of their catch on Leewood homes. It’s been messy and noisy.
(ed: bad birds, bad, bad birds)
So contact
Al or a board member with those concerns.
November Board Report: by Chris Taylor
for Ron Filadelfo
The recent
board meeting covered a variety of topics, including the presentation
of the 2004 budget. You’ll note the budget summary on page three.
If you have questions, please contact one of the board members.
The board
also approved the recommendation by the Grounds and Maintenance
Committee to spend $8,000+ on new plantings. That work has already
begun, and you’ll note the additions in the development. The
money was part of the budget and accumulated operating funds.
A new Wachovia
bank will be going into the Bradlick Shopping Center, replacing
the First Union building. They have asked to speak to the board
in an upcoming meeting. We’ll keep you posted.
At this
writing there are a number of homeowners who are behind in quarterly
payments. Your attention to this matter is appreciated.
Eighteen
residents are taking advantage of the fence discounts provided
by the Hercules company.
The board
discussed a resident complaint about dogs left unattended in
front of residences. The consensus was dogs should not be left
unattended and should be leashed when not in their own backyards
or indoors.
Remember
no Thanksgiving Day trash pickup.
The Board
also received a letter from Urban Engineering & Associates,
Inc. notifying us that a "Record Plat" for Granberry Estates
has been submitted to the Fairfax County Department of Public
Works & Environmental Services (DPW&ES). The Plat may
be reviewed at the DPW&ES offices. The reference number
is 7724-RP-2-1. The Tax Map Reference numbers are 071-3-((07))-0032/34.
